A big part of the Hub is the community space on Slack. Slack is a space to keep the conversation going, ask for support, celebrate the victories (no matter how small), and chat through stumbling blocks and barriers you might be facing.

Guidance to get started with Slack is below. You will have been sent a link by the Community Hub Manager to get onto the site. If you aren’t familiar with Slack as a platform, read through the below for how to get started.

Join the Hub’s conversation, here.

Joining the Conversation To join our Slack channel, click through here to sign up. The channel is for anyone new to engaging with tech or interested in developing or growing their business using tech or digital means. The conversations will be supported by staff from SSC’s Engagement Team.

Sending a Direct Message If you’re interested in networking a bit more or want to continue a conversation via direct messaging, click the ‘+’ next to the ‘Direct Messages’ heading. In the ‘To:’ field, search for the individual you’d like to message. After selecting their name, a messaging window will open and the message you type will be a direct message, rather than in the group chat.

Tagging Want to get someone’s attention? Another community member or member of the engagement team? Tag them as you do across other social media platforms by typing ‘@’ — a Hub membership list will appear and you can select the name you’d like to tag

****This should support you with the basics of Slack, but if you’re interested in adding a profile picture, customising your notifications, or taking a deeper dive into how the platform can be used, take a peek at Slack’s Help page, or book a 121 in with the Community Hub Manager, Katie.
